How does strikethrough Unicode text work?
Strikethrough text uses Unicode Combining Long Stroke Overlay (U+0336) — an invisible combining character that adds a horizontal line through the preceding character. It attaches to each letter individually, producing t̶e̶x̶t̶ that looks crossed out in any font on any platform. Unlike HTML <s> tags or markdown ~~text~~, which only work in supported environments, Unicode combining strikethrough works everywhere plain text is accepted.

- Instagram captions — as a comedic device

Frequently Asked Questions
Does strikethrough Unicode work on Instagram?
Yes. The Unicode combining strikethrough character displays correctly in Instagram bios, captions, and comments on iOS and Android. Instagram does not support HTML or markdown, so this is the only way to get strikethrough text in Instagram posts.
What is the difference between Unicode strikethrough and Discord ~~strikethrough~~?
Discord’s ~~text~~ is markdown that renders only in Discord message bodies. Unicode combining strikethrough (t̶e̶x̶t̶) is plain text that works everywhere — including Discord nicknames, server names, and outside Discord entirely.
Why does my strikethrough text look slightly off on some platforms?
The combining strikethrough character renders slightly differently depending on the platform’s font. On most platforms it looks clean; on some it may appear slightly high or low. This is normal variation across fonts.
Can I combine strikethrough with bold or italic?
Yes — you can generate bold or italic Unicode text separately, then add the combining strikethrough character to each letter. The result is bold strikethrough (𝗯̶𝗼̶𝗹̶𝗱̶) or italic strikethrough.
